UdeM remains among the world’s top universities

Now in their 10th year, Quacquarelli Symonds’ World University Rankings by Subject focuses on 48 academic disciplines. UdeM ranked in 38 of them.

British-based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has published its 10th World University Rankings by Subject and Université de Montréal, with its affiliated schools, HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal, perform well in several of the fields of study evaluated.

Indeed, UdeM ranks in 38 of the 48 subjects judged. It is among the top 100 universities in the world in the broad area of life sciences and medicine, ranking 75th, up from 77th in 2019. UdeM also shows improvements in the broad area of engineering and technology (109th, up from 113th in 2019).

UdeM ranks in the top 100 universities in a number of specific areas as well:

·       statistics and operational research (29th, up from 32nd in 2019);

·       veterinary science (43rd, up from 46th in 2019);

·       and many others: mathematics; computer sciences and information systems; anatomy and physiology; medicine; nursing, pharmacy and pharmacology; English language and literature; performing arts; theology, divinity and religious studies; anthropology; business and management studies; communication and media studies; politics and international studies; sociology; and sports-related subjects.

Overall this year, QS ranked UdeM 137th in the world. 

Founded in 1990 and headquartered in London, Quacquarelli Symonds has been producing world rankings of higher-education institutions since 2004. This year it analyzed over 22 milion papers to produce its ranking of 1,368 institutions.
